The new Chilean environmental institutions, increased litigation, citizens’ participation, and community interest pose major challenges for the development of projects. A proper prevention and planning, as well as adequate support in the development of a project, in dialogue with communities and authorities, can make a difference.
Since the launching of the Environment and Natural Resources Practice in 2008, our priority has been to consolidate a team of experts exclusively dedicated to these matters. Each member of our team brings his or her unique perspective to complex environmental assessment processes, permits, litigation, consultations, and negotiations, as well as to punitive administrative procedures.
Our focus is primarily preventive, both with regard to authorities (top-down) and communities (bottom-up), contributing our legal experience in the strategic development of each case in order to achieve the best reception and understanding by the stakeholders of each process. Patricio Leyton, with 20 years of experience in this field, runs the area with the support of Valeria Ruz and Carola Salamanca.
With the full entry into force of the new environmental institution, after several years of preparation, FerradaNehme is in a strong position to face the challenges that are presenting the proceedings before the Ministry of the Environment, the Environmental Assessment Service, the Environmental Superintendent, and the Environmental Courts.
